Learning Activity: More on Public Service
Ask students to agree or disagree with the following statement made by Marian Wright Edelman of the Children’s Defense Fund:
"[Public] service is the rent each of us pays for living."
Ask students to discuss how Robert H. Jackson would have reacted to this statement. Have students identify evidence from Jackson’s life that supports their opinions. Ask: Why is public service important and how does it relate to civic responsibility and informed citizenship?
