Students can research Robert H. Jackson’s path to the United States Supreme Court. Have students construct a timeline illustrating the different government positions that Jackson held prior to his nomination to the Supreme Court. Students should identify the different positions and describe Jackson’s responsibilities in those positions. Students should also list some of Robert Jackson’s important decisions and actions when he served in these different government positions.
For example, Jackson’s role in the case against Andrew Mellon, his testimony in Roosevelt’s court-packing proposal, his defense of New Deal legislation before the Supreme Court, and his role during the Destroyers for Bases Agreement and the Lend-Lease program.
